Working with Dynamic Governance and Complementary Systems

Mon, 01/30/2017 - 9:00am to 1:00pm
*Please note we will be closed to the public on this day, January 30.*
Come share and learn from the experiences and forms that have helped 21st century organizations and communities create dynamic, resourceful, self-motivated collaborations between staff, clients, managers and suppliers.
A growing number of organizations are recognizing a need for different models of organization and management with the opportunities and challenges of the digital age. Over the last 40 years, many complementary systems have been developed to support organizations and communities in becoming self-organizing systems. These include circle-based decision making processes and circular feedback structures to enable the harvesting and application of collective intelligence and wisdom.
At The Ojai Foundation we are continually experimenting with moving forward as a circle. This includes introducing and assessing what systems and forms work for the different parts of our community, organizational life, and business. We believe that an essential component of learning and growing on this frontier is sharing stories and experiences with other organizations who have similar missions – and possibly similar problems. TOF staff and board members will be there along with some of our partners such as New Roads School and Heartwood Institute as we continue to build the foundations of a new way of organization in these kinds of complementary, non-hierarchical structures.
What to Expect
In this morning round table discussion we will ask questions like:
  • What forms, modalities and systems are working in your organization? Why?
  • What are common problems and issues that arise in self-organizing systems?
  • What are ways to diagnose when to use which systems?
By the end of the discussion we aim to have a table of complementary systems with a top-level diagnosis on when to use them and why. This discussion will emphasize providing space for all to share their experience of circle-based leadership techniques and systems. It is through this sharing that we will find collective wisdom and advancement.
We're excited to share this with you and we want to encourage those who feel called to come. Please don't let money or resources be a barrier and let us know if there's anything we can do to support your attendance.
