Council is a community building practice that fosters empathy, multiple perspective-taking, deeper listening, and effective expression. It is a natural for consensus building and problem solving. It is no less a powerful communication process for adults as it is for children. In fact, some educators and parents suggest that finding some way to practice council with other adults, or similar form of conscious dialogue and attentive listening, may be essential for those who do want to bring it to children.
